Winford "Wimp" Fry passed peacefully Thursday, September 19, 2024 at Hendrick Hospital in Abilene surrounded by family and friends.
He was born May 12, 1939 in Brown County to Henry and Evelyn (Smith) Fry. Wimp graduated from Cisco High School and attended Texas A&M University before joining the United States Army. After his time in the Army, he returned to the family ranch to help his father. He ran the ranch after his father's passing and cared for his aging mother until her passing. Wimp was an active member of the Putnam community, serving as Mayor and later as Constable. He was active in the volunteer fire department and a faithful member of Brushy Creek Cowboy Church in Putnam. He met Mary Behrens, and although he never had children of his own, he was able to help raise her family. Wimp was a caring Christian man and became a loving family man.
Wimp was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Evelyn, his wife Mary (Behrens) Fry, stepdaughter Noel (Behrens) Trujillo, sister Joyce (Fry) McClaine and a nephew Stephen McClaine.
He is survived by stepson, Eric Behrens of Phoenix, granddaughter Megan Ames of Cisco, great granddaughters Minerva Batteas of Lubbock and Suirory Walton of Cisco, nephew Brian McClaine and wife Elizabeth of Midland, niece Brenda (McClaine) Carrens and husband Carey of Taunton, MA. and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Wimp's life will take place Saturday, October 19, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Brushy Creek Cowboy Church in Putnam, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Brushy Creek Cowboy Church in Putnam or the Putnam Volunteer Fire Department.
