Troy “Butch” Lee Smith Jr, 69, of Baird, passed away on March 18th at his home.
Butch was born in Baird to Fannie Elizabeth Carver and Troy Lee Smith Sr. on April 20th, 1950 He went to school at Baird. He graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology with a PhD in Chemistry. He worked as a Chemist for multiple companies over the years, as well as entrepreneur until his retirement. He was involved in many different activities from shooting competitions and shooting clubs, to umpiring baseball games. He also took an interest in his hometown of Baird by regularly attending town meetings and often times having something to say.
Butch is preceded in death by his parents, as well as sister, Michelle Carver, and grandson, Trae Smith.
Butch is survived by his son, Paul Smith; daughter, Amanda Smith; brother Jim Smith and his wife; sister, Anelle Free; and granddaughters Madisyn and Taylor Puckett.
A remembrance of life service will be held at a later date due to the current restrictions on gatherings and social distancing, which if you knew Butch, you know he would be having fits over.
