Richard Charles "Richie" Crow Obituary

Richard Charles Crow was born June 9, 1947 in Abilene, Texas to Frankie Charles and Irma Lois Young Crow. He passed away on June 5, 2020, at the age of 72. Richie was raised in Baird, Texas. He graduated from Baird High School in 1965 and attended Texas Tech University. He completed his degree in Agronomy from Texas Tech in 1969. He worked for Growers Cotton Seed for several years before becoming the Floyd County Extension Agent. He also worked at Texas Soil Blenders before moving back to Baird. He taught in Clyde ISD and Eastland ISD where he coached softball, golf, taught at-risk students and ag. Richie loved agriculture, working with kids to help them develop leadership skills and he was an avid sports fan. Refereeing basketball games was one of his favorite past times, as was working on the family farm.

He married Sara Humes Lehew on May 19, 1990, in Idalou, Texas. The following year, Baird became their home where Richie served on various boards and volunteer roles through the years with Callahan County Stock Show Association, Baird ISD School Board, and First United Methodist Church Board. He volunteered for many years as the score keeper for his beloved Baird Bears, as well as the Baird Bears Booster Club.  The only thing he loved as much as the Baird Bears were his Texas Tech Red Raiders.

Richie was passionate about his family. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Sara; his children Jennifer Pierce and husband Monte of Shallowater; Jamie Crow and Bryant Jones of Clarendon; Steve Crow of Baird; Curtis Lehew and wife Tara of Austin; grandchildren Holt Pierce and Hays Pierce of Shallowater; Tarrent Adams of Seattle, Washington; Dylan Adams of Lockney; Makayla Ponce of Amarillo; Baylee Jones of Clarendon; Cameron Wilson of Baird; Malin Lehew of Austin. Richie was an only child, but had many cherished friends that he considered family, especially his Baird classmates of 1965.

A graveside celebration of Richie’s life will be held at 10:30 AM Monday, June 8, 2020 at the Ross Cemetery Annex in Baird, Texas. Due to current Covid concerns, those attending the service are encouraged to practice social distancing guidelines.
