Megan Hunter Wright Obituary

Megan Brooke Wright (Hunter) of Baird, Texas, at 39 years young, flew into eternity’s sunrise to be with Our Lord on October 29, 2023 after a courageous battle with breast cancer.

Megan was born June 11, 1984 at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene, TX to Terry and Tereva Hunter. Megan began her life in Baird sprinkled with brief periods of time spent in Grapevine, Abilene, San Angelo and Tracy, CA. As the saying goes, all roads lead Home and she spent a majority of her childhood and her adult life in the city of Baird, home to a single blinking light, the T&P Depot, a red boxcar, fountain Dr. Pepper’s from Allsups and a community she adored.

Megan attended Baird High School where she excelled in track & field, basketball, cheerleading, Beta Club, and more. She graduated from her alma mater in 2002 and her early career began at the Sonic in Clyde where she went from carhop to manager in a few short years.  Megan briefly attended McMurry University’s business school when she decided to follow in her Memaw’s footsteps to become a hairdresser. She graduated from the Texas College of Cosmetology in 2004 and stepped into her life’s calling.

Megan’s creativity and artistry were truly God-given as were her abilities to teach others in her field. Megan’s loyal clients followed her to Eclips,TG & Co, Nelda’s Styling Center, The Hen Shack, Aristocuts, The Strand, and Silver Scissors throughout her successful career. Megan considered her fellow stylists family as they walked life’s road together. In her chair, friendships were forged, secrets were shared, lives were celebrated, laughs were exchanged, hardships were unpacked and through it all, Megan served her clients with tremendous skill, humility, joy, empathy, compassion and grace. Megan volunteered her services at Abilene’s Love & Care Ministries Citywide Revival to the homeless and less fortunate. Megan was never too busy to help a neighbor, a friend, or a stranger. She sold Younique cosmetics for many years alongside her full-time job at the salon where she attained some of the highest honors in the company.

Megan was previously married at the Chapel on the Hill at Abilene Christian University in 2007 to David Wright of Camp Wood, TX and together they have two beloved children, Devan Taelor and Emory Reece. Megan boasted on her last day that Devan and Emory were God’s greatest gifts to her and that was plain to see by her steadfast love and devotion to them throughout their lives. Megan was so very proud of them.

Megan was a member of First Baptist Church in Baird where she was baptized at the age of 7. She is preceded in death by Nelda June Hunter (Hagler) whom she dearly loved and was looking forward to learning how to crochet with her in Heaven.

Survivors include her former spouse, David Wright of Abilene, TX; Son Devan Taelor Wright and Daughter Emory Reece Wright of Baird, TX; Parents Terry & Tereva Hunter of Baird, TX; Brother TJ Hunter and wife Sarah of Abilene, TX and their children Graham, Heidi and Sadie; Brother Cody Hunter and wife Katie of Powderly, TX and their children Hudson, Haidyn, Judah, and Noa; Grandparents Alfred and Barbara Hunter of Abilene, TX; Grandparents Fain and Earlene McWilliams of Midland, TX; beloved aunts and uncles, numerous treasured cousins, and cherished members of the Wright family.

Megan was gorgeous inside and out and had an unforgettable smile. She loved music, art, dance, Dr. Pepper, her children, her family, and her innumerable lifelong friends. Megan’s life was a testimony of Christ’s love modeled in 1 Corinthians 13:1-13 and her grace, selflessness, empathy, and compassion overflowed from her heart and touched everyone she met along her way. May we all strive to live by her example.
