Jimmy C. Jones

Jimmy C. Jones, 74, died April 30, 2020 at his home in Baird, TX. He was born September 16, 1945 in Hopkins Co. TX to Charlie “Chock” Jones and Susie Jane White Jones. 

The Jones family moved to Jal, NM when Jimmy was three months old. He was a graduate of Jal High School and attended Lubbock Christian College. He married Tommie Lynn Betcher Aug. 5, 1966 in Jal.  He was employed by El Paso Natural Gas Co. in the electrical department. They  lived in Jal, Kermit, TX  Midkiff, TX  Algeria and in Kermit, TX until 1987 when they moved to Port Aransas, TX where he established Jones Electric. They moved to Baird, TX in 1997. He was employed by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice until retirement in 2009.

Jimmy was a member of the Jal City Council,  fire chief and emergency medical technician, ambulance crew, Jal Volunteer Fire Dept.;   board member, Jal Chamber of Commerce;   officer, Southeastern New Mexico Firemen Association and New Mexico Ambulance Association;  instructor, fire and extrication procedures, State Fire Marshal’s training school;  volunteer, Queens Rescue Station;  fireman, Port Aransas Volunteer Fire Dept. 

He was predeceased by his parents, brothers James H. Jones and Jerald W. Jones;  sisters, Linda Kay Jones Thurmond and Wanda Gay Jones Davis;  and granddaughter, Baylee Alexis Jones.  
 

He is survived by his wife, son, Bobby Don Jones;  daughter, Micah L. Jones Ramirez and husband Joe W. Ramirez;  grandchildren Kelsey Alexis Bradley,  Joe David Ramirez,  Brittney Brianne Russo,  Mikala Elizabeth Ramirez and Taylor McKenzie Ramirez;  great grandchildren, Reid Tyler Bradley Jr.,  Max Koen Bradley,  Lily Alexis Bradley  and K’sin Blayz Ramirez,  and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jimmy’s fondest memories of his early days and attributed to his ultimate successes were his time as a member of the Jal High School track team, mentored by the great Coach Jerry Taylor and inspired by his teammates.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
