Jim Clark died peacefully on Tuesday, March 8, 2022. He was born October 8, 1931 to George Preston and Cora Lou Clark in Eula, Texas.
Jim graduated from Baird High School in 1949, and joined the United States Army shortly thereafter. He was stationed in Germany for most of that time, specializing in Radar Technology. He was also the quarterback of the Army football team while stationed in Germany. He moved back to the United States in 1951 and lived in Big Spring, Texas and Stockton, California before returning to Baird. In 1957, he married Elizabeth Ann Snyder and moved to Austin, where they both attended the University of Texas. Jim was a member of the Delta Sigma Pi fraternity and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration in 1960.
After graduating college, Jim originally planned to go to work in the financial services industry. However, after learning the structure of the corporate world, he decided that might not be where he would be happy. His father-in-law, C.B. Snyder, Jr., was a cattle rancher, and he invited Jim to join him in the cattle business until he decided upon a different career path. Jim loved ranching, and eventually C.B. made him a partner. Jim remained in the cattle business until his retirement.
Jim and Elizabeth Ann had four children, Cy, Jay, Jeff and Kim. After Elizabeth Ann's death in 1974, he later married Pat Rice, who had three children from a previous marriage: Bob, Becky and Ben. Jim welcomed Pat's children into his family as though they were his own. After Pat's death in 2004, Jim married Betty Corn Cassato, who passed away in 2015.
Jim enjoyed many hobbies, all in which he excelled. These included fishing, hunting, golf, drawing, singing, playing guitar, sculpting, writing, and making furniture, just to name a few. Some of his fondest memories were of fishing with his close friends on the San Juan River.
Jim is survived by his four children, Pat's two living children, as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and his nephew Bill Johnson.
Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 PM Friday, March 11, 2022 at Parker-Jacobs Funeral Home, 141 E. 3rd Street in Baird. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, March 12, 2022, at First Baptist Church, 240 Race Street in Baird.
