Helen Kathleen "Kathy" Self

Helen Kathleen “Kathy” (Lange) Self, age 69, passed from this life on Sunday, April 21, 2019 in Baird, TX. She was born on January 25, 1950 to the late George Lange and Helen (McLaughlin) Lange in Fort Dodge, IA.

Kathy married Billy Ray Self on March 31, 1972 in Graham, TX.

Kathy moved from Iowa to Blanket, TX, where she spent most of her youth, before moving to San Antonio where she graduated from John Marshall High. She sang in the choir and even performed several solos. Kathy moved to Baird in 1979 with her husband Billy. She worked as a substitute teacher and many may remember her from her daycare in Baird. She and Billy even started an Elementary School in Brunei, Borneo. Kathy had a heart for helping others; she wanted to feel needed and cherished children. Kathy found comfort in serving others and being around kids. She will be missed dearly by many.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband: Billy Ray Self of Baird; her children: Michelle Self-Wilson and husband Haley of Little Rock, AR, Rebecca Self Harborth and husband Bruce of Nashville, TN, Daniel Ray Self and wife Eryn of Clyde, TX and Jason Self and wife Michelle of Baird, TX; four brothers: Tom Lange, George Lange, Kelly Lange and Ron Lange; two sisters: Ethel Marie Mobley and Mary Anne Knopp; twelve grandchildren: M’Kenzie, Adam, Keeley, Miles, Hailey, Dillon, Alex, Boston, Madison, Peyton, Eli and Lyvia, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many friends.

Kathy is preceded in death by her parents: George Lange and Helen Lange.

Visitation with the family will be held from 5 pm to 7 pm, Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at Parker Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am, Thursday, April 25, 2019 at the Baird First Baptist Church with Pastor Mark Hewitt officiating. Graveside services will be held at 2 pm, Thursday, April 25, 2019 at Throckmorton Cemetery in Throckmorton, TX.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Kathy’s memory can be made to Callahan County Meals on Wheels or charity of choice.
