Born December 4th, 1946 in Louisville, Kentucky to Eugene Wert and Glennie Mae (Parris) Clevenger. Gary attended Lincoln Junior High, Central High in Chattanooga, Abilene High and graduated with a BS degree in Psychology from ACU. He was a Graphite Pencil Artist, collector of antiques and American Indian Relics. In his earlier years he traveled extensively along the US West Coast and Mexico.
Gary always enjoyed a beautiful sunset and rarely let one go to waste. He was a lifelong wildlife and bird enthusiast. He always made sure the birds were “fed and watered.” He saw beauty in all wildlife, and as a bird enthusiast Gary often included them in his artwork.
Gary is survived by his daughter, Robyn and her husband, Lee Williams, 3 beloved grandchildren, Sienna, Garrett and Carys all of Modesto, CA and his son, Cody of Abilene, Texas. Gary is also survived by two sisters, Geneanne and Gaylynn.
Gary was baptized in the Church of Christ. He later parted ways with organized religion but never left behind the teachings of Christ. In his final year he expressed his faith and commitment to His Savior. Gary was 76 years old when he passed away after a year long unexpected illness on July 27, 2023. His family and friends love him and will miss him very much.
The family will hold a private service at a later date. In lieu of flowers please make donations to The Abilene Zoo, a place Gary enjoyed with his grandchildren.
