Ferron Wayne Mercer III, "Tres," passed away unexpectedly July 4, 2026. He was born September 30, 2009 in Abilene, the son of Ferron Mercer Jr. and Megan Benton.
Tres loved the Lord with all his heart and was baptized August 14, 2016 at the age of 6, at Lake Nasworthy in San Angelo. Growing up he attended various schools within the San Angelo school district, until recently when he transferred to Jim Ned High School.
Tres was always happiest outdoors. He learned the love of hunting at an early age and spent countless hours in a blind or a helicopter, hunting deer, elk, or pigs with Johnny Allen. He also loved fishing, particularly bass fishing because he never had the patience to sit around waiting for catfish. He had a passion for sports, mostly football (Go Seahawks!), but more recently he had discovered a new love for golf. Tres had a need for speed and an adventurous spirit. He loved cars, particularly anything loud, fast, and powerful. His dream car was a blue C6 ZR1 "Blue Devil" corvette. When he wasn't outdoors, you could find him inside playing Call of Duty with his dad, his uncles, and his friends.
With his blonde hair, hazel eyes, and a smile that would light up the room, people couldn't help but be drawn to his magnetic personality. He was charming, confident, and every bit of a ladies man, but what people will remember the most is how genuine and kind he was. Tres loved fiercely and protected the people closest to him, most importantly his momma, he has always been a proud mama's boy. Simply put, he was everyone's favorite, and his memory will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.
He is predeceased by maternal grandfather, Montey Benton, paternal great grandparents Jerry Mercer and Carol Moates, as well as his great grandmother from his step-mothers side, Marcia Moyers.
Left to cherish his memory are his parents: Megan Benton, Ferron Mercer (April) of Abilene, Tx.; brother: Kamryn Ghoulson; sister: Emery Gamez; great grandmothers: Sheron White and Evelyn Hicks; grandparents: Correne Benton, Jamie Paine (Scott), Ferron Mercer (Shaina), Amy Gaizelle (Travis) and Kevin Webb (Kimberly); aunts: Krystal Irwin (Shane), Alicen Sampson, Desiree Kelly (Dustin), Kelsea Webb, and Brooke Conners; uncles: Joshua Benton (Kristen), Caleb Benton (Jennifer), Matthew Ledesma (Maggie), Ryan Mercer, and Evin Webb; as well as numerous cousins and friends who loved him dearly.
A service will be held at 11 am Friday, July 10th at Hillcrest Church of Christ, 650 East Ambler Ave. Abilene, Tx. 79601. Officiating the service will be Cody Cochran of Bethel Assembly in Anson. Pallbearers include: Joshua Benton, Caleb Benton, Ryan Mercer, Evin Webb, Avery Sutton, Aiden Kielpinski, Owen Irwin, and Cohen Benton.
Following the ceremony, a "hot rod" cruise to Parker~Jacobs Funeral Home in Baird will take place, followed by an immediate return cruise back to Hillcrest Church of Christ. Upon return to Hillcrest, there will be a Celebration of Life Luncheon for all family and friends to gather and share memories.
