Daniel N Smith III Obituary

Daniel Nathan Smith, III, 81, passed away October 27, 2023 at Hendrick Medical Center. He was born May 13, 1942, in Baird, Texas, the son of Daniel Nathan Smith, Jr. and Billie Louise Smith (Rister).

Dan attended Baird High School. He immediately enlisted in the U.S.  Naval. During his time in the Navy he spent several months on the USS Vital touring the Mediterranean. Following the military Dan attended Texas A&M Fire Academy and worked many years until retirement for Pennwalt Corporation in  Houston, Texas.

After retirement Dan came back to his hometown where he spent his remaining years. 
Dan was an outdoorsman’s. He spent many years fishing off the coast of Galveston with his sons and hunting with his buddies. 
Dan adored his great great niece Braylee and great great nephews Caiden and Callen.

Dan and his sister had a bond like no other siblings. They spent many days drinking coffee and he loved cooking for her. 

Dan was preceded in death by his parents, his loving son Brian Smith and brother Billy Oric Smith. 

He is survived by his son, Nathan Smith,  sister, Jackie Mendez, nephew, John Mendez, Jr., niece, Deon Lawson (husband Chuck), niece Shannon Smith (husband David), great nephew, Adam Thompson (wife Hali), great niece, Summer Hargrove and great nephew, Rode Hargrove (wife Taylor).  Dan’s love of his life was Vicky Whitehead and his precious fur babies Skipper & KiKi. 

Graveside services will be 1:00 PM Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at Ross Cemetery Annex in Baird.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests to donate to his favorite charity Ben Richey Boys Ranch.
