Carl Glenn Mauldin Obituary

Carl Glenn Mauldin, (aka Carl Grin, aka Jose Schwartz) age 92 of Comanche, TX passed away on January 17, 2024, at De Leon Nursing and Rehabilitation in De Leon, TX. Services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, January 20, 2024 at Parker-Jacobs Funeral Home, with Brother Lloyd Dail officiating. Burial will be at the Belle Plaine Cemetery in Baird, TX.

Carl was born in Goodland, TX on December 15, 1931, to Eugene Sherwood and Vernie Belle Cooper Mauldin. He was the oldest of five children, having two sisters and two brothers. Sisters include Irene Masters (Willie) and Marjorie Brown (Danny). Brothers are Roland Mauldin and Don Mauldin. Carl was preceded in death by his parents and his youngest brother, Don.

Carl grew up in Rowden, TX and graduated from Bayou School. He was the only person to attend all years of schooling at the school. There were four people in his graduating class, and he often joked about being the valedictorian of his class of four! Following high school, he attended Howard Payne University for one year before being drafted into the United States Army in May of 1951. He told many of us the story of him working kitchen duty, peeling potatoes and watching the airplanes. He asked the sergeant on duty supervising them what it would take to get into flight school. The man replied, “Keep peeling potatoes. You’ll never do that.” As we all know, he DID do that. He ended up flying mail planes in Korea and Japan and following his military service he went on to fly for several commercial airlines. He was a fantastic airline pilot, and even became a check pilot, certifying pilots safe for flight.

In 1952, he met a pretty telephone operator named Mable Joyce Self. Mable was engaged to be married, but Carl turned on his charm and told her she better send that guy his ring back! They were married on February 6, 1953, and went on to have three children. Carl was very active in church. Over the years he was a deacon, a bus captain in the bus ministry, and was even ordained as a minister. Spreading The Good News was Carl’s passion in life. He was a charismatic people person who loved his family, his friends, airplanes, and Jesus!

Carl is survived by his wife of over 70 years, Mable Joyce, and their three children; Karen Armstrong and husband Bill of Rogers, Arkansas; Russell Mauldin and wife Maegan of Athens, Texas; and David Mauldin and wife Karleen of Conroe, Texas. He is also survived by ten grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Carl made a great impact during his time on this earth and would want you all to know that there IS life after death. While we mourn the loss of his presence and will miss him greatly, we find peace knowing that he is home in the presence of Jesus. “Well done, thy good and faithful servant.

”Fly high, Carl, (Daddy, PawPaw) we’ll see you soon!"
