Brenda Gail Harnar

Brenda Gail Harnar, 73, of Abilene, Texas, passed peacefully on August 26, 2025, in her hometown. 

Born on February 20, 1952, in Abilene, Texas to Elvis and Elsie Mae Skipper. She attended primary school in Abilene and graduated from Southlake Carroll High School in 1970. Brenda went on to earn her surgical technician certification from Tarrant County Junior College, and later her Associates degree from Cisco College. 

Brenda worked at the Abilene Supported Living Center for 20 years, before earning her retirement from the state of Texas. She also found deep fulfillment as a companion caregiver to senior citizens. In more recent years, Brenda and Larry Sr shared their love of God through planning and preparing meals for their church family. 

A woman of unwavering devotion to Christ, Brenda was an active member of her church for many years. She had confidence in her salvation. 

Brenda's family was the heart of her world. She is lovingly remembered by her husband of 51 years Larry Harnar Sr; sons Larry Harnar Jr. (Karen) and Clayton Harnar (Gabrielle); grand children Jared Logg (Lauren), Lauren Harnar, Colby Harnar (Zuri), and Caiden Harold Harnar; and grand daughters Adalynn and Camrynn Harnar. Brenda also leaves behind her brother, Elvis "Jr." Skipper (Debbie), two nieces and one nephew, numerous friends, neighbors and her church family. 

She was preceded in death by her parents. 

Known affectionately as "Granny or Nanny" Brenda took joy in caring for her grandchildren, quilting, cake decorating, along with ceramics. She was a wonderful baker, and we will miss her buttermilk and pecan pies. Brenda loved science fiction adventures and classic John Wayne films, and never grew tired of bragging about her pride in her family. 

Brenda's legacy is one of generosity, kindness, love and deep spirituality. Her memory will always be a light for her family to follow for the rest of their days. 

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at 11am at Wylie Methodist Church, 3430 Antilley Road in Abilene, with Jeff Hatcher officiating.  Brenda's immediate family will gather for a private interment at Potosi Cemetery, where many of her relatives are at rest.
