We remember and celebrate the life of Billy Brooks Butler, 93 years young, who was born on October 29, 1932 in Brownwood Texas.
He was promoted to Glory surrounded by family, Monday February 16, 2026, at his home on the farm in Hodges, Texas.
Bill proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1953. He was a member of the Confederate Air Force. He served on the Abilene Fire Department from 1952 until his retirement as a Captain in 1983, leaving behind a limitation of character for a firefighter to follow.
Celebrating his life and legacy are children Donna White, David Scott wife Cheryl, and Diana Duncan and husband Randy. He was the beloved granddad of Danny Ellison and wife Stephanie, Brylee Ellison and husband Shawn, Jake Scott and wife Temi, Blake Duncan and wife Candace, Taylor Duncan and wife Tori, and Johnny Holland and wife Sarah; along with 14 great-grandchildren.
Known for his storytelling and his talent with a guitar, Bill could light up any room. Just don’t hand him a microphone unless you were ready for an evening of music and laughter.
He was the quintessential granddad, offering old-fashioned farmhouse-style hospitality and a warm, welcoming presence to everyone around him.
In honoring Bill's memory, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of service, music, family, and a legacy of kindness. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
The family wishes to thank Hendrick Hospice for their care of our dad, granddad and great granddad.
Celebration of Life will be Friday February 20, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Hope 4 Life Church, 3502 Rebecca Lane in Abilene, with the Abilene Fire Department presenting honors. Military honors will follow at 1:00 PM at Texas State Veterans Cemetery of Abilene, 7457 West Lake Road, Abilene, Texas 79601.
