Dorothy Browning

February 26, 1924 ~ August 8, 2019 (age 95)

Dorothy Browning, age 95, passed from this life on August 8, 2019, in Edmond, Oklahoma. A graveside service was held in Ross Cemetery, Baird, Texas, on August 13,, 2019, with Pastor James Martin officiating. Parker Funeral Home of Baird was in charge of arrangements.
Dorothy Gloria Watry was born in New York City on February 26, 1924, daughter of Gregory and Andrea Watry. She grew up in Los Angeles, California, graduating from LA’s John C. Fremont High School. Dorothy loved animals and the outdoors; she joined in Sierra Club outings with her friends, and she was an active volunteer for World War II community war efforts. When she was in her 20’s, Dorothy moved to San Francisco, and worked at Bank of America.
Dorothy met Gerald (“Jerry”) Weber on a blind date and they married in 1956. Dorothy had three children with Jerry, daughter Deborah and sons Robert and Michael; they lived in both the Los Angeles and San Francisco areas before the family moved to Texas in 1967. Dorothy remarried in 1974 to John Browning. Dorothy worked for Brown & Root while she and John lived in Houston, before later retiring to live “in the country” in Baird, Texas. They enjoyed being in the country, near John’s sister Bessie Mae, gardening and pecan growing, visits with family and friends, and travel.
After John’s passing in 2007, Dorothy lived in Baird and then Abilene. She loved her friends at Abilene’s University Place Independent Living, especially staying active with her walking group. Her last seven years were spent living in Edmond, Oklahoma, enjoying holidays and family meals and her friends at Teal Ridge Independent Living and Teal Creek Assisted Living. Strong and sharp to the end, she loved to laugh, watch Turner Classic channel movies, keep up with current events, and enjoy daily lunch with her friends. Before her eyesight failed, Dorothy was an avid crossword puzzle worker. She filled them out in pen!
Dorothy leaves behind her children and their spouses, Debbie and Alan Booth, Rob and Dee Weber, and Mike and Michele Weber. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren, Michelle (Dillon) Paulson, Mike Weber, Jr., Josh Weber, Nick Weber, Luke Weber, Logan Weber, Ben Weber, Grace Weber, Joseph Weber, John Weber, and David Weber, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, four siblings, and her husband John. Dorothy’s legacy of laughter and kindness, her love of learning and nature, her pride in being strong and self-sufficient, and her faith in God, will live on as her family treasures and builds on their memories of her.
